Intentional_word_stones Intentional Word is an invitation to become very conscious about the power of our words as we observe our habitual use of language and begin to choose with intention the words we use. We are often oblivious to the ways our words reflect, like a mirror, the relationship we have with our beliefs and how even subtle changes in our words have a dramatic impact on our experience. In daily practice, Intentional Word can be as powerful as meditation, prayer and yoga. Moment by moment we adjust course and bring ourselves into alignment with what we desire.    ~ s.e. bayles

Its a beautiful Sunday morning in San Francisco - November 2005 and I'm in church. Rather than an uber-churchy church it's more of an easy going spiritual Sunday service, yet something is REALLY bugging me about what the minister is saying. Something FEELS OFF. After five consecutive Sundays it dawns on me... the message and the words being used to deliver this message run counter to the stated beliefs & principles of this church. Yikes! There is a palpable dissonance: The words and beliefs simply don't match up.
This idea of "words not matching beliefs," fascinated me. So, I began to really observe MY words and to see where they either lined up or ran counter to my own beliefs; to what I hold as true. I began to realize not only DO my words reflect my beliefs, they speak a LOUD story about subtle inconsistencies between what I say I believe and where I really AM relative to those beliefs.

My words are a reflection of where I AM. And like the minister, there were places where my words were completely out of alignment with what I BELIEVE to be true. Just because I BELIEVE something and accept it as true, does not mean I am fully aligned, walking in and acting from that belief. My relationship with that belief is not fully integrated. It's similar to the difference between knowing something in your head intellectually and really KNOWING it, GETTING it in your gut, in your body. You know what I mean there?

Ok, so I asked myself... What would happen if I consciously looked for inconsistencies between my words & beliefs and began to bring my language into alignment with what I accept as true? What might happen if I chose each word intentionally?

What if each word did MORE than simply align with my belief - What if each word supported, empowered and up-lifted my belief? What might become possible through a conscious word-by-word practice of choosing a more Intentional Word?

And Intentional Word was born!                                                                       ~ s.e. bayles

Author and Speaker

Born and raised just outside Philadelphia, I moved to Chicago after college and San Jose in 2008. I now have two decades of experience in jewelry design including countless hours of mentoring by expert artisans and ten “hands on” years in fine jewelry manufacturing. As a result I bring a wealth of knowledge about materials, craftsmanship and style to the table. Beyond jewelry, I have a passion for words and the intentional use of language. I believe we create our experience in life and am writing a book on the topic because I am curious… What else is possible? ~ Suzanne Bayles

So Why a Blog?

This blog is for all of us. Selfishly, it’s a way for me to have all of my projects in one place so I can see progress over time & know your thoughts about them. As the blog grows it will provide practical info on both jewelry and the intentional use of language. Strange bedfellows perhaps.  Welcome to my world!

Gratitude

I am fortunate to have the love and support of family and friends across the country; one in particular has known me since I was barely old enough to ride a tricycle in her driveway. Much love to all!
